Founder Sarah Maisano was just 12 years old in 2011 when she started volunteering at a local nursing home with her mother, Sharon. There, she helped with bingo and the residents grew very fond of her. After that experience, Sarah started to think about other ways that would have a meaningful impact on the people around her.
Sarah embraced the meaning of giving during the holiday season, and decided to host a Holiday Fundraiser. Her guests were asked to bring gifts that could be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, instead of bringing gifts for each other. The party was a hit and became an annual fundraiser.
After the second holiday fundraising party the following year, Sarah and her family decided to go full time with care packages and good deeds. Upon realizing that companies needed the proper paperwork in order to give her monetary donations, Sarah decided to become a 501(c)(3) organization. With a little help and the use of her own personal savings for the $1,000 fee, she was approved and her non-profit organization “SKIP Supporting Kids in Pain” became a reality.
The mission of SKIP Supporting Kids in Pain is to make a difference in the lives of children. SKIP’s goal is to donate care packages to kids in all 50 states.
